Building on last fall’s newly introduced and popular drawing course for children, Arts Sutton is very pleased to offer this course again in Winter 2010. The 10-week course fits in well with Arts Sutton’s mission, which is to bring young people more in contact with the visual arts. From February 20 to May 8 (with a break on March 6 and April 3), the course for kids between the ages of 8 -12 will be held on Saturdays from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. at the John Sleeth Centre in Sutton. The course will address composition, light and shadow, motifs, emotion, human proportions, perspective, and warm and cool colours, which will be explored through a range of materials: lead and colour pencils, charcoal, gouache, ink and felt pens. The course will be given in French and English by Isabelle Grenier and Stéphane Lemardelé. Isabelle Grenier has a national diploma in the visual arts from the École des beaux-arts in France, and a BA in visual art education from UQAM. She is currently teaching at Massey-Vanier high school in Cowansville. Stéphane Lemardelé, a well-known local artist, studied visual arts at the École des beaux-arts in France and animation at Cégep du Vieux in Montreal. He has illustrated children’s books and travel guides, including the Brome-Missisquoi guide (Carnet de Brome-Missisquoi) published in 2007. The students will work through exercises designed to help them develop their ability in various media. A creative and dynamic teaching approach will build students’ confidence and help them overcome the obstacles to learning how to draw. The cost for the 10 classes is $50 for Gallery members and $60 for non-members, plus $15 for materials. The maximum number of students is 20. Sign up now, because registration ends on February 18 or as soon as the course is full! This is a unique opportunity for children to develop their artistic expression for a minimal fee, thanks to the generous donations the Gallery has received for this specific activity, which we believe is of primary importance. |
